How Much Coffee Per Cup: Coffee To Water Ratio

Coffee is a very subjective thing, and it all depends on how you like it best. Getting the perfect amount of coffee in your cup for that ideal taste is no easy task, so we are here to help. Here is our in-depth guide on how much coffee you should have per cup!

The basic rule for a single coffee is:

Use 250mL + 15 grams of coffee.

That formula is guaranteed to provide you with a fairly balanced coffee. Now there is lots of flexibility in that formula, but we can use that as a starting point. 

Now, we will take you through how much coffee you will need for every set of cups.

Here’s a cheat sheet for coffee!

1 Cup Of Coffee

For 1 cup of coffee, you will need 15 grams of coffee (2 tablespoons)

2 Cups Of Coffee

For 2 cups of coffee, you will need 30 grams of coffee (4 tablespoons)

4 Cups Of Coffee

For 4 cups of coffee, you will need 60 grams of coffee (8 tablespoons)

6 Cups Of Coffee

For 6 cups of coffee, you will need 90 grams of coffee (12 tablespoons)

8 Cups Of Coffee

For 8 cups of coffee, you will need 120 grams of coffee (16 tablespoons)

10 Cups Of Coffee

For 10 cups of coffee, you will need 150 grams of coffee (20 tablespoons)

There you go, that’s a basic cheat sheet you can use anytime you’re making coffee!

Here are some basic conversions 

1 Teaspoon = â…“ tablespoon

3 teaspoons – 1 tablespoon

2 tablespoons = 1 basic coffee scoop

So be sure if you want to make a normal, refreshing coffee, we recommend you use two tablespoons per coffee scoop. Obviously, this is just a basic rule and isn’t the gospel, so it doesn’t need to be followed every time.

Coffee ratios for your drip coffee maker (coffee pot):

How many tablespoons of coffee for 4 cups: 20 oz water + 5 tbsp coffee

So how many tablespoons of coffee for 6 cups: 30 oz water + 7 1/2 tbsp coffee

How many tablespoons of coffee for 8 cups: 40 oz water + 10 tbsp coffee

How many tablespoons of coffee for 10 cups: 50 oz water + 12 1/2 tbsp coffee

So how many tablespoons of coffee for 12 cups: 60 oz water + 15 tbsp coffee

If measuring in coffee scoops, that’s:

This many scoops of coffee for 4 cups: 20 oz water + 2 1/2 scoops

This many scoops of coffee for 6 cups: 30 oz water + 3 1/2 scoops

This many scoops of coffee for 8 cups: 40 oz water + 5 scoops

This many scoops of coffee for 12 cups: 60 oz water + 7 1/2 scoops

If measuring in 8-ounce cups, you will need:

1 cup will = 8 oz water + 2 tbsp coffee

2 cups will = 16 oz water + 4 tbsp coffee

3 cups will = 24 oz water + 6 tbsp coffee

4 cups will = 32 oz water + 8 tbsp coffee

5 cups will = 40 oz water + 10 tbsp coffee

If measuring in 10-ounce cups, you will need:

1 cup = 10 oz water + 2 1/2 tbsp coffee

2 cups = 20 oz water + 5 tbsp coffee

3 cups = 30 oz water + 7 1/2 tbsp coffee

4 cups = 40 oz water + 10 tbsp coffee

5 cups = 50 oz water + 12 1/2 tbsp coffee

If measuring in 12-ounce cups, you will need:

1 cup = 12 oz water + 3 tbsp coffee

2 cups = 24 oz water + 6 tbsp coffee

3 cups = 36 oz water + 9 tbsp coffee

4 cups = 48 oz water + 12 tbsp coffee
