Keurig Vs Nespresso: What Is Better?

With the ongoing global health crisis making it inadvisable to go to our favorite public spaces, many coffee lovers can’t help but be on the lookout for the next best thing with the best coffee makers on the market. Following the boom of coffee capsules, the most popular brands at the moment are Nespresso and Keurig. So, which is better, Nespresso or Keurig, well lets find out!

nespresso vs. keurig

In July last year, Nespresso’s Romont coffee pod production facility in Switzerland went through a $170.5m expansion in order to address the growing consumer demand worldwide. Keurig, on the other hand, hit a 52-week high earlier this year and is expected to deliver strong growth this 2021.

Together, these two premium coffee pod makers serve as the driving force behind the exponential growth of the global coffee capsule market, which is anticipated to reach $14m by 2027.

That said, if you are a coffee lover looking to invest in a single-serve coffee maker, it can be quite difficult to determine which of the two brands will suit you best. After all, both are coffee powerhouses. So, to help you out a bit, this article will compare Nespresso and Keurig based on cost, variety of brew, and eco-friendliness.

The cost – Keurig Or Nespresso

The folks at Keurig may be the ones that gifted the world with coffee pods, but their non-commercial machines continue to be reasonably priced. In fact, Keurig single-serve coffee makers retail from $80 to $160, and boast a wide range of selections that cater to all kinds of customers.

Unlike Keurig, Nespresso machines used to be a lot more expensive. But, in order to have a greater share of the coffee pod market, the company recently released a more affordable line called VertuoLine. A Nespresso Vertuo coffee maker can be as cheap as $126.

Of course, aside from the machine itself, the cost of the coffee pods must also be added to the equation. Keurig’s K-Pods are a lot less expensive. They can come as low as $0.35 or as high as $0.65 per serving.

Keurig machines can also accommodate a reusable filter, allowing owners to brew with their own ground coffee. Owing to their larger sizes, the price of Nespresso coffee pods can range from $0.90 to $1.35 per serving. Pricier ones for Nespresso’s higher-end models are also available.

The brews: Nespresso Vs Keurig Taste

As the pioneering inventors in the field of portioned coffee, it isn’t surprising that Keurig boasts an impressive collection of over 400 beverage varieties from 60 brands. They have pods not only for coffee, but also for hot chocolate, tea, lemonade, and fruity drinks.

Its competitor, who only got into the coffee pod industry about half a decade ago and uses bar-code scanning technology, only has 17 varieties at the moment. This large disparity in coffee selections may be a disadvantage for Nespresso, but they make up for it by enabling their machines to brew espresso aside from regular coffee. Nespresso also focuses more on releasing high-quality coffee pods that might just help coffee aficionados overlook the limited selection.

Their eco-friendliness

Now that more people are realizing the importance of sustainability, consumers have also started considering these factors when choosing a brand to follow and support. Keurig and Nespresso have both responded to the call, but in their own ways. While Keurig consumes less power, Nespresso uses aluminum for its pods.

Unlike Nespresso single-serve coffee makers that use up to 1710W per brew with their water pump and Thermoblock, Keurig’s home brewers’ peak power usage is only at 1500W.

Keurig is able to consume less power because its machines are built with higher stackup impedance calculations in place, which enable the better flow of electricity power planes in the machine. There’s also enough signal layers to distribute the power to all components, allowing machines to function more efficiently.

Nespresso machines may use more electricity, but they can still be considered eco-friendly because they don’t add to the planet’s already huge plastic problem. Instead of using plastic like Keurig does, Nespresso’s capsules are made of aluminum, which is 100% recyclable. To ensure that these used pods are indeed being recycled, the company has its own recycling program.

All Nespresso coffee maker owners have to do is order recycling bags from the company’s website, fill them with their used pods, and ship them back to Nespresso’s recycling facility using the prepaid UPS shipping label. They can also drop the bag off at a local Nespresso boutique.

Conclusion

All in all, Nespresso and Keurig are both reliable single-serve coffee makers that can make great-tasting coffee. Choosing between them all comes down to the factors that you consider as the most relevant. For more articles on all things coffee, explore our are articles here on The Cozy Coffee.
